Range Resources seeks to overturn gas-drilling rule in Pa. township

Range Resources-Appalachia is disputing an oil and natural gas drilling ordinance that was cleared by South Fayette Township, Pa., last year, saying a state law pre-empts and supersedes it. Under the rule, energy companies would be required to secure land-operations permits for every well they drill. Under the ordinance, Range is being "deprived of its legal right to develop its oil and natural gas property interests" in the township, the company said.
