Top 10 ACO errors include overestimation of ability to use EHRs

Electronic health records play a crucial role in establishing accountable care organizations, but available systems appear unready to take on the job, according to a Journal of the American Medical Association article. The top 10 errors that ACOs are likely to make include overestimating the ability to use EHRs, which can be hindered by a lack of provider support and training, workflow disruptions during the initial stage of implementation, and incompatible ambulatory and hospital IT systems, the authors note.
