$229M coliseum project awarded to Forest City Ratner-led Barclays Center team

The Barclays Center team, led by Forest City Ratner Cos. and Mikhaul Prokhorov, owner of the New Jersey Nets basketball team, has been awarded the right to redevelop the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, former home of the New York Islanders hockey team on Long Island. The $229 million project will create an entertainment complex, with SHoP Architects planning to redo the old arena into "a nest of glass and steel, looking like a hypertrophied Barclays Center." In addition, retail stores and restaurants will be built around the arena. The team beat out Cordish Cos. and Madison Square Garden Co.
