AAR: Carload traffic drops but intermodal gains in latest week

Freight carload traffic of U.S. railroads dropped 0.2% in the week ending Aug. 10 year-on-year, but intermodal activity rose 6.1%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Shipments of petroleum and petroleum products -- one of the six carload categories that posted growth -- increased 16.8%. Overall U.S. traffic climbed 2.7% year-on-year, AAR noted.
