AH&LA has issued a statement in support of the National Conference of State Legislatures' passage of a resolution that sides with the hotel industry regarding tax disputes with online travel firms. The NCSL resolution calls on state lawmakers to create legislation to clarify lodging tax laws. The group's actions "sends a signal to elected officials in all 50 states that laws need to be clarified to ensure that hotels are not placed at a competitive disadvantage because identical transactions by online travel companies receive a different tax treatment. We urge them to ensure that tax policies for both online travel companies and hotels are consistent," said Katherine Lugar, president and CEO of AH&LA.
