Calif. regulator investigates offshore fracking

The California Coastal Commission has decided to probe offshore hydraulic fracturing following reports that such an activity is occurring in the state. "We take our obligation to protect the marine environment very seriously and we're going to be looking at this very carefully," said Charles Lester, the commission's executive director. The panel, as an initial step, seeks to ask offshore drillers whether they will be applying fracking in their operations.
