Celiac disease carries malignancy risk, study finds

Celiac disease patients overall had a higher risk of a lymphoproliferative malignancy, but those with persistent villous atrophy were at higher risk than those with mucosal healing, according to a multicenter study involving more than 7,600 patients. The researchers said the study suggests mucosal healing should be a goal for reducing the risk of malignancy in celiac disease patients.
