Editorial board points to negative consequences of ethanol mandates

The U.S. ethanol quota leads refiners to raise fuel prices by about 10 cents per gallon to cover the costs of Renewable Identification Numbers, according to a USA Today editorial. Next year, when the mandate increases, prices will rise by at least 20 cents, the editorial board writes. "The Obama administration has some flexibility to lower the mandates, but a better approach would be to repeal the law entirely."
