Fluoroquinolones may cause blood glucose fluctuations in diabetes patients

Researchers looked at data on about 78,000 diabetes patients in Taiwan and found that those who took fluoroquinolones had a higher risk of severe blood glucose fluctuations than those treated with other classes of antibiotics. Among three fluoroquinolones studied, moxifloxacin was linked to the highest risk of both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. The findings appear in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
