NRC, NEI dismiss report on terror threat to nuclear plants

U.S. nuclear plants are still vulnerable to terrorist attacks despite safety measures that have been strengthened since 2001, says a report from the Nuclear Proliferation Prevention Project at the University of Texas at Austin. "The report contains no new information or insight" and is a "rehash of arguments from a decade ago" when the Nuclear Regulatory Commission was forming post-9/11 policies, said NRC spokesman David McIntyre. "I'm always concerned when folks have an unclassified report and claim to have all the answers in it," said David Kline, the Nuclear Energy Institute's director for nuclear security.
