Proposed emissions rules might crimp generation of renewables, GE says

General Electric is warning that federal restrictions on fossil fuel-powered plants may inadvertently limit renewable energy generation, writes Kevin Bullis. Proposed carbon emission rules may limit the operation of a kind of natural gas power plant that can adjust its output to accommodate wind and solar energy fluctuations, GE said. These plants spew more carbon into the air when they adjust their output, making it difficult for them to comply with the proposed carbon rules, GE said.
