Researchers create new tools for uncovering malware lineage

Security researchers are hoping to make it easier to track and target malicious software by unlocking the secrets of its evolution. A group from Carnegie Mellon University has developed a program called iLINE, which enables analysts to map the lineage of malware based on features as basic as file size and snippets of code with up to 96% accuracy. A second tool, called iEVAL, is used to check their work.
