Massive Safeway distribution center under way in Northwest

Construction is under way on a massive, $95 million Safeway Distribution Center in Auburn, Wash., that will supply Safeway retail grocery stores in the region. The 1.1 million-square-foot project consists of 10 buildings on 116 acres, including a 20,000-square-foot recycling building, a 20,000-square-foot truck maintenance garage and a 10,000-square-foot administration and dispatch office, and also took into account some unique logistical considerations.
