NAEP results: Charter schools outperformed by regular public ones

An AFT analysis of 2003 NAEP scores revealed that fourth-graders attending charter schools perform about half a year behind peers in other public schools in both reading and math. Supporters of charters say the scores should be viewed only as a baseline and noted that charters typically take on children who are performing poorly at their neighborhood schools.
