Scottish biotech gets "broad" U.S. patent on stem cell technology

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has given Edinburgh-based Stem Cell Sciences a new "broad" patent for the company's stem cell selection technology. The patent covers "all methods of purifying any type of mammalian stem cell via any introduced gene and all stem cells purified by the method," the company said.
