Long Island project gets mixed reaction from residents

About 1,000 Long Island residents recently attended a rally to support the Lighthouse, a proposed mixed-use development that includes an arena. It is one of several mega-projects planned for Long Island that supporters say could reinvent the suburban landscape and generate new jobs. Public hearings focused on environmental concerns related to the Lighthouse began earlier this month. Some neighbors are concerned about the project's effects on traffic, storm-water runoff and retail occupancy.
