Port Authority awards contract for subway box brace

Tutor Perini has received a $177.6 million contract from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to build a brace for the subway box that will enclose the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's number 1 subway line's portion that runs through the former World Trade Center site. Officials said the contract, which was approved last week, came in 28% below the estimate for the project. Workers will use a top-down approach, which should ensure that the public can access the 9/11 Memorial on Sept. 11, 2011.
