Fed aims to ban a mortgage practice that fueled the subprime crisis

The U.S. Federal Reserve said it is moving to prohibit yield-spread premiums in home-mortgage lending, a transaction that allows lenders and mortgage brokers to give themselves bigger fees by charging borrowers higher-than-market interest rates. The practice has been widely blamed for contributing to the housing boom and the subprime-mortgage crisis that followed.
