Veterinarian Douglas Mader spends countless hours of his own time caring for wildlife in the Florida Keys. Mader, who was honored for his volunteer work last month by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has set broken deer legs, performed surgery on injured sea turtles and reconstructed the jaw of a crocodile that was crushed in a car accident. "There is nobody like him," said deputy Jeanne Selander, who runs the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Animal Farm. "He takes care of all the vet work for our 250 animals -- on his day off and almost at no cost."
