ADA issues paper on dental safety net

The U.S. lacks a coordinated, systematic approach to providing oral health care to underserved populations, but steps can be taken to remedy the situation without major funding increases, the American Dental Association said in a white paper. Suggestions include a public health model that emphasizes prevention, attention to social and cultural issues that impede access to providers, coordination of care, patient education and public-private collaboration.
