Expert: Train entire patient care team on pressure ulcer prevention

Patients in hospitals and long-term care facilities often develop pressure ulcers that are expensive to treat but preventable through a multidisciplinary approach, says Courtney H. Lyder, executive director of the Patient Safety Institute and professor of public health and medicine at UCLA. Studies have shown that training the entire patient care team to prevent, detect and treat pressure ulcers improves patient safety and reduces costs, Lyder says.
