SEC lawyer accuses agency of covering up major financial crimes

Securities and Exchange Commission lawyer Darcy Flynn told Congress that the agency has destroyed thousands of documents related to investigations of financial crimes, effectively covering up much of the misconduct that led to the financial crisis in 2008. The destroyed files include records of a 2002 investigation of fraud at Lehman Brothers Holdings and two early inquiries into Bernard Madoff's activities.
