Free iPods reflect new online marketing approach

The promise by Web site to hand out, that's right, free iPods, appears to be legitimate -- in fact, it represents a new form of online marketing that works like this: You get the merchandise if you sign up to receive online promotions and get other people to sign up as well. eBay, AOL and other companies are supporting this marketing approach, but some analysts remain skeptical that it makes economic sense.
