Jersey City weighs eliminating hotels' tax deduction

Local hoteliers are expressing concern about a proposed Jersey City, N.J., ordinance that would eliminate hotels' ability to deduct real estate taxes -- or payments-in-lieu-of taxes in the case of tax-abated properties -- from the total they pay the city. A New Jersey state law allowing for this possibility was approved in July.
