CMS: Pay-for-performance initiative using health IT works

CMS was able to get $16.7 million in additional earnings from a Medicare pay-for-performance demonstration project that utilized health IT to reduce health care costs and improve quality for the 10 participating physician groups across the U.S. The four-year project also raised $5.8 million for the Medicare Trust Fund from its savings over the past two years. "We are paying for better outcomes and we are getting higher quality and more value for the Medicare dollar," acting CMS Administrator Kerry Weems said.
