New York awaits update on World Trade Center progress

Though the superstructure of Freedom Tower is beginning to rise from the earth, the signature building of the new World Trade Center complex won't be ready by 2012, as originally planned -- and no one has yet given a new completion date. Excavation is done or nearly done for Towers 2, 3 and 4, but none of the buildings will hit original goals for completion. As for the transit hub, it is now expected to be completed in 2011 at a cost of $3.4 billion -- not in 2009 for $2.2 billion, as originally planned.
