NTSB: Teterboro controller had no view of doomed helicopter

The National Transportation Safety Board on Monday blunted its criticism of an air traffic controller involved in a fatal mid-air collision over the Hudson River on Aug. 8. The board admitted that the sightseeing helicopter involved in the accident did not appear on the Teterboro Airport controller's radar screen until seven seconds after the pilot of the second aircraft was handed off to controllers at Newark Liberty International Airport. For days, the National Air Traffic Controllers Union had urged the NTSB to clarify the sequence of events after earlier statements appeared to implicate the controller.
