Service learning is used by teachers to engage rural students

Officials in a rural California school district say students are benefiting from projects that blend learning with community service. Every student participates in the projects, which began more than a decade ago when a group of teachers wanted to incorporate service learning into the curriculum as a way to reach struggling students.
