Educator: Merit-pay policies could lead to testing focus

Third-grade teacher Gaetan Pappalardo considers in this blog post the effect that teacher merit-pay policies may have on students and learning at the elementary-school level. Pappalardo argues that basing teacher pay on test scores will lead to increased focus on test preparation and an overemphasis on tested subjects, to the detriment of learning in others -- such as social studies and technology -- and ultimately hamper students' inherent curiosity and creativity.
