Indian retailers see private labels turn into solid brands

Future Group, Spencer's Retail and other major retailers in India have discovered that their own brands, or private labels, are quickly becoming solid brands. "Our research shows that customers have started to trust the retailer's brands," said Mohit Kampani, an executive at Spencer's Retail. Retailers tend to price their own brands lower than established brands and give them prime placement on their shelves, but they generally do not launch large advertising campaigns to promote them.
