Loan refunds would cost banks billions, an analysis shows

An analysis by Compass Point Research and Trading shows that 11 banks might face billions of dollars in losses because of refund demands from mortgage-bond investors and insurers. Analyst Chris Gamaitoni told clients that lenders' total losses likely would range from $55.3 billion on the low side to $179.2 billion.
