Oceanographer to dispute U.S. report on spill-cleanup numbers

Ian MacDonald, an oceanographer at Florida State University, is expected to tell House lawmakers today that the U.S. government's spill-cleanup figures are "misleading." The White House has reported that about 75% of the oil that leaked from BP's damaged Gulf of Mexico well has dissipated, but MacDonald argues that only 10% was "actually removed from the ocean." The report "gives the impression that the cleanup efforts were more effective than they actually were," he is expected to say.
