HIMSS asks CMS to lengthen attestation period for MU stage 2

The first year of the attestation period for stage 2 of the meaningful use initiative should be extended until April 2015 for eligible hospitals and June 2015 for eligible professionals, HIMSS suggested in a letter to CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner and National HIT Coordinator Dr. Farzad Mostashari. HIMSS supports an on-time start for stage 2 but endorses a longer attestation period because information in the HIMSS Analytics Database reveals that many eligible hospitals and their ambulatory facilities that have acquired the solutions needed to attest to stage 2 criteria may still be awaiting upgrades to the certified version.
