N.C. funds telepsychiatry program

A telemedicine initiative is being launched in North Carolina next year that will be based at East Carolina University and will receive $4 million from the state over two years. The program will offer rapid response assessment to patients at rural hospitals who are experiencing substance abuse or mental health episodes by using two-way audio and/or video technologies. Around 4,350 patients are expected to benefit from the program in the initial year of its launch.
