Obesity rates stabilize across U.S., but extreme obesity on the rise

Overall, obesity rates across the U.S. held steady as of 2010, but remained high with almost 36% of adults struggling with obesity, according to a report released by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Rates of extreme obesity -- being 100 pounds or more overweight -- rose for adults and youths over the past 30 years, with 6.3% adults and about 5% children and teens obese in 2009-2010.
