Report shows massive growth in global wind power from 2006 to 2012

The global financial downturn in 2008 failed to dent the expansion of wind energy, which grew from 73.6 gigawatts in 2006 to 280.6 GW in 2012, according to a new report from GlobalData. U.S.-based GE Energy was the biggest turbine supplier in 2012, GlobalData said, accounting for 15.2% of the land-based wind market, followed by Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems, and Germany's Enercon and Spain's Gamesa. China was the biggest wind market in 2012, followed by the U.S., because of a lack of long-term policies, the report showed.
