Young wireless charger inventor gains VC backing

A recent University of Pennsylvania astrobiology graduate secured backing from the Founders Fund for developing a way to charge a cellphone battery from across a room by deploying sound waves. Meredith Perry said she has found a method of sending high-power sound without creating shock waves. The Founders Fund interest sparked additional venture capital backing for the Mountain View, Calif.-based company, uBeam, which has employed engineers to prepared the invention for market.
