Protocol boosts ED discharges, cuts ICU time for DKA

The use of the Emergency Valuable Approach and Diabetes Education protocol in the emergency department helped discharge up to 23% of diabetic ketoacidosis patients from the ED in the most recent month, research indicated. The protocol also reduced average time spent in an ICU, researchers reported at the American Association of Diabetes Educators meeting.
