Reports show economic growth; energy prices a concern

Three reports indicate U.S. economic growth should remain strong, but soaring energy costs are worrisome. The Conference Board's July index of leading indicators, a predictor of the U.S. economy, showed modest growth in coming months. The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said its business-conditions index showed an increase of the mid-Atlantic region's manufacturing sector. And the Labor Department said new claims for unemployment benefits showed only a mild increase.
