Companies say zinc is key to mouthwashes

New mouthwash products that contain oxidating agents and zinc claim to offer longer-lasting protection. Triumph Pharmaceuticals says positively charged zinc ions in its SmartMouth keep breath fresh for 12 hours. Procter & Gamble's Crest Pro-Health and Johnson & Johnson's Advanced Listerine also use zinc for additional protection against smelly breath.
