Construction material prices soar

The Labor Department's Producer Price Index showed a 10.4% rise in construction materials in the past 12 months, and the index for highway and street construction rose as much as 18.9%. Increases in asphalt and steel prices have been even worse since the prices were taken in mid-June, according to Ken Simonson, chief economist for the Associated General Contractors of America.
