HHS proposes adoption of ICD-10 codes, updated HIPAA standards

The HHS has proposed the use of revised standards -- X12 Version 5010 and NCPDP Version D.0 -- for HIPAA transactions and the adoption of new International Classification of Diseases-10 codes for diagnoses and procedures by October 2011. The changes are intended to enable the electronic transmission of certain health data, CMS said.
