Tech companies empower patients with "self-care" tools

Technology firms including Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. are developing "self-care" tools designed to help patients keep track of their own health and receive feedback from medical professionals. One such tool is Zume Life's Zuri, a device that reminds individuals about their drug regimen and allows physicians to monitor patient compliance through a Web page. As more people live with chronic disorders, "care can be increasingly moved outside of the hospital to the home," an executive with Intel's Digital Health Group said.
