Is playing golf environmentally defensible? Ethicist Randy Cohen notes that golf courses can guzzle water and require chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Although some courses are making an effort to reduce their environmental impact, Cohen notes that a zero-impact course is unlikely.
