Funding uncertainty forces states to focus on small projects

State officials are focusing on basic highway maintenance and repairs instead of larger projects because they are unsure of how much funding they will receive when a six-year reauthorization of a highway funding law is passed. They also note that the condition of the nation's highway system could start to hurt the economy. States and business groups support federal transportation legislation that would span six years and increase highway and transit funding.
