Innovative coatings could eliminate need for detergents

New coatings developed by scientists at Purdue University that can be applied to glass, concrete and other surfaces could eliminate the need for cleaning with caustic detergents or solvents. The polymer coatings create surfaces that resist oil and can be cleaned with water. The coatings are two layers, but still thousands of times thinner than a human hair.
