First national Groupon deal overwhelms servers

Groupon's first national deal debuted Thursday, offering users of the group-buying site $50 worth of Gap clothing for $25. The response far exceeded the company's expectations, bogging down its servers at points throughout the day, as users snapped up one Gap Groupon every 10 seconds. By midday, the site was on track to sell 700,000 by the end of the day, reaping a reward of about $17.5 million.
