Food gifts prove popular during recession

A Packaged Facts report shows the consumer food-gift category grew 9.6% between 2007 and 2009, to $14.9 billion. The growth was more substantial than in other gift categories because gift-packaged foods are considered an affordable luxury and because of interest in organic, natural and gourmet foods, according to this article.
