Maryland focuses bridge rebuilding efforts on Baltimore

Maryland's Department of Transportation has launched an effort to rebuild or replace dozens of bridges in the city and surrounding areas. The effort is in part a reaction to the deadly 2007 collapse of Minnesota's Interstate 35W bridge. Like other states around the country, Maryland took stock of its bridges and has begun upgrading its infrastructure. The state is spending $300 million a year to fix six or seven bridges annually through 2017.
