Small businesses are feeling the brunt of job loss

Companies with fewer than 50 workers were responsible for 61.8% of all jobs lost in the private sector during the fourth quarter, according to a report by the Labor Department. Even though these companies also accounted for 54.1% of new jobs in the quarter, their performance is lagging partly due to tight credit, economists say.
